Hashimoto’s doesn’t mean your body is broken. It means your immune system has been on high alert for a long time.

This case wasn’t about “fixing” a thyroid.

If your “healed gut” can’t tolerate food, it’s not healed.

Even if a restrictive diet like carnivore initially helped, long-term dietary restriction comes at a cost.

When fiber and fermentable carbohydrates stay out long-term, the gut microbiome adapts by down-regulating the enzymes and microbial species required to digest them. That means reintroducing carbs and fiber later becomes harder not easier.

At the same time, ultra-low-diversity diets reduce microbial diversity.

And higher microbial diversity is consistently associated with:

👉🏻 Better gut barrier integrity
👉🏻 Increased short-chain fatty acid production (like butyrate)
👉🏻 Stronger immune signaling (including sIgA)
👉🏻 Improved metabolic and inflammatory regulation

If cutting calories actually worked the way Instagram claims, no one would be stuck.

Yes, calories matter.

But when a deficit isn’t producing fat loss, it’s rarely because “you’re not trying hard enough.”

More often, it’s because the context around that deficit is off.

Bodies aren’t spreadsheets. They’re adaptive biological systems that respond to stress, fuel, training, and health status, not just math.

This is where functional coaching comes in.

Instead of forcing a deeper deficit, I look at why the body isn’t responding to a deficit in the first place: nutrition patterns, training quality, lifestyle stressors, hormone signals, digestion, and ordering labs when appropriate.

The unfortunate truth is that most women haven’t spent an intentional amount of time building muscle.

Many have been “strength training,” but often while dieting, doing excessive cardio, or following programs that never truly prioritized progressive overload or recovery. Over time, that combination quietly erodes lean mass.

So when women enter their 40s and 50s with less muscle than they realize, body composition shifts feel sudden - and hormones get all the blame.

Hormones do matter. But muscle is what allows your metabolism to respond to those hormonal changes.

This is why muscle isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s metabolic insurance.

As I look ahead to where health and weight loss are headed, I don’t see a louder industry. I see a more honest one.

One that values strength over thinness.
Context over quick fixes.
Physiology over promises.
And wisdom over optics.

Muscle will matter more- not because bodies need to look a certain way, but because strength supports metabolism, resilience, and the ability to carry life well through every season.

Hormones will be understood as responsive, not rebellious- shaped by how we eat, sleep, move, digest, and live under stress.

Gut health will be approached with more humility, recognizing that a dysregulated nervous system can’t be overridden with protocols or prescriptions alone.

And authority will begin to replace aesthetics- not out of criticism, but out of necessity. Because bodies are complex, and guiding someone well requires more than good genetics or a convincing transformation photo.

And health won’t be about control but stewardship- caring for the body with intention. Seeking guidance with discernment.
Building capacity instead of chasing outcomes.

That’s the direction I see us moving toward, not perfectly, but purposefully. And I believe it’s a shift worth welcoming.

At some point, you need to break camp, and move on.

They’re created by the shape of your pelvis, the position of your femur, and how your glutes/obliques tie into your waist.

In other words… it’s bone structure and muscle attachment, not a lack of muscle or a sign you’re “out of shape” or “aging.”

In fact? 👉🏻 Women with strong glutes and low body fat often see hip dips more because the muscle is defined enough to show real structure.

Translation: hip dips = a lean athletic physique, not something you need to inject with filler or “fix.”

We are in the throws of the holiday drinking season. Between Thanksgiving and New Years alcohol use increases by 25–40%. Eek. And in midlife to menopausal aged women this increase can have outsized health impacts.

And while yes- I do personally think it’s insane to drink a toxin given the same carcinogenic rating as asbestos- this post is not about morality in any way.

It’s about physiology. FACTS.

And the facts are that alcohol is incredibly disruptive, especially in a menopausal or postmenopausal body.

The same glass of wine you had at 30 simply has a bigger metabolic consequence at 50.

Our bodies change as we age, it’s unavoidable, and wisdom is learning to honor those changes instead of ignoring them.

👉🏻 Alcohol doesn’t offer your body any meaningful physiological benefit. There’s no nutrient, no healing property, no function it improves. In fact, every system that touches it has to work harder because alcohol is essentially a toxin your body must prioritize clearing before anything else.

Does that mean you need to quit drinking? No, not necessarily. But you do need consider operating within better guardrails when it comes to alcohol if you want fat loss, better sleep, balanced hormones, and consistent energy in this stage of life.

Remember boundaries aren’t punishment, they’re stewardship. 😉

We are in the throws of the holiday drinking season. Between Thanksgiving and New Years alcohol use increases by 25–40%. Eek. And in midlife to menopausal aged women this increase can have outsized health impacts.

And while yes- I do personally think it’s insane to drink a toxin given the same carcinogenic rating as asbestos- this post is not about morality in any way.

It’s about physiology. FACTS.

And the facts are that alcohol is incredibly disruptive, especially in a menopausal or postmenopausal body.

The same glass of wine you had at 30 simply has a bigger metabolic consequence at 50.

Our bodies change as we age, it’s unavoidable, and wisdom is learning to honor those changes instead of ignoring them.

👉🏻 Alcohol doesn’t offer your body any meaningful physiological benefit. There’s no nutrient, no healing property, no function it improves. In fact, every system that touches it has to work harder because alcohol is essentially a toxin your body must prioritize clearing before anything else.

Does that mean you need to quit drinking? No, not necessarily. But you do need consider operating within better guardrails when it comes to alcohol if you want fat loss, better sleep, balanced hormones, and consistent energy in this stage of life.

Remember boundaries aren’t punishment, they’re stewardship. 😉

Social media- and bodybuilding in particular- leads us to believe leaner = healthier.

It rewards extremes, applauds discipline without context, and celebrates a version of “fitness” that is only meant for COMPETITIVE ATHLETES, not for walking around in daily life.

When I stepped on stage, I was shredded. My abs were crisp, my glutes were striated, and people praised the discipline it took to get there.

But what you didn’t see was what it took behind the scenes: Hunger so high it hijacked my thoughts… sleep so light I felt wired and tired… flatlined hormones, zero sex drive, a jacked up gut and a metabolism running on fumes.

That version of me was shredded & lean, yes. But she wasn’t healthy.

So here’s what I want all women to hear: A woman’s body is not designed to live at stage-level body fat. Not hormonally, not metabolically, not emotionally.

Some degree of body fat on a woman is necessary and good because it stabilizes hormones, supports thyroid function, protects bones, regulates appetite, keeps moods balanced, and allows us to live without micromanaging every calorie that passes our lips.

The physique I have now? Still lean. Still strong. Still athletic. But it’s sustainable. My metabolism is fueled. My hormones are on fire, I cycle regularly and painlessly, I get 8-9 hours sleep a night, my workouts feel powerful instead of punishing, and when my husband wants to go? I’m ready to rumble.

The best version of yourself doesn’t require chasing a look that costs you your health, your energy, or your sanity…in fact the opposite. It means creating a body that you can LIVE in -not just pose in, one that is strong, hormonally supported, and capable.

Because chronic stress doesn’t just stay in your head (or heart) it shows up in your hormones, gut, metabolism, and mood.

But while the world says manage it,
the Bible says tells us to cast it.
And to exchange it for peace.

Scripture doesn’t offer us an unhelpful or vague “relax more.”

When someone has a history of dieting, stress, gut issues, hormone disruption, or metabolic slowdown, the body doesn’t just “respond” because the plan finally looks good on paper. It’s not operating off this week or last- it’s responding to years of signals.

This client lost 40 pounds in just under two years. Now to some of you that might sound slow… but here’s the difference: she didn’t just lose it, she kept it off. No rebound. No regain. No “back where I started.”

How? She got consistent. And she stayed patient.

Even when you start doing everything “right,” your body often needs an extended stretch of consistency before it feels safe enough to let weight go. If you’ve been under-fed, over-fed, inflamed, overtired, or inconsistent for months and even years, you can’t expect the body to do a complete 180 in a week.

Consistency isn’t about crushing it for 10 days, it’s about sending the same message over and over until your body believes you: “You’re safe. You’re fed. You’re supported. This isn’t another short-term push.”

Once that internal stress alarm turns off and the metabolism has time to recalibrate, the weight starts to move, more predictably, and in a way that stays off.
