Most women blame hormones for belly fat as they age… but one of the real silent drivers?

Hip dips aren’t flaws. They’re anatomy. ⤵️

They’re created by the shape of your pelvis, the position of your femur, and how your glutes/obliques tie into your waist.

In other words… it’s bone structure and muscle attachment, not a lack of muscle or a sign you’re “out of shape” or “aging.”

In fact? 👉🏻 Women with strong glutes and low body fat often see hip dips more because the muscle is defined enough to show real structure.

Translation: hip dips = a lean athletic physique, not something you need to inject with filler or “fix.”

So. My two cents on hip dips if you have them?

EMBRACE them. 💪🏻

We are in the throws of the holiday drinking season. Between Thanksgiving and New Years alcohol use increases by 25–40%. Eek. And in midlife to menopausal aged women this increase can have outsized health impacts.

And while yes- I do personally think it’s insane to drink a toxin given the same carcinogenic rating as asbestos- this post is not about morality in any way.

It’s about physiology. FACTS.

And the facts are that alcohol is incredibly disruptive, especially in a menopausal or postmenopausal body.

The same glass of wine you had at 30 simply has a bigger metabolic consequence at 50.

Our bodies change as we age, it’s unavoidable, and wisdom is learning to honor those changes instead of ignoring them.

👉🏻 Alcohol doesn’t offer your body any meaningful physiological benefit. There’s no nutrient, no healing property, no function it improves. In fact, every system that touches it has to work harder because alcohol is essentially a toxin your body must prioritize clearing before anything else.

Does that mean you need to quit drinking? No, not necessarily. But you do need consider operating within better guardrails when it comes to alcohol if you want fat loss, better sleep, balanced hormones, and consistent energy in this stage of life.

Remember boundaries aren’t punishment, they’re stewardship. 😉

And you’re allowed to say no to a few spirits so you can yes to less belly fat, better sleep and better health.

21 year old me believed that if I could just be perfect enough, everything would fall into place. And every time I slipped, even a little, I’d completely throw in the towel. Vowing I’d start over on Monday.

I know you know the cycle.

What I didn’t realize then - but have learned through my own walk with the Lord and through coaching hundreds of women just like me - is this: God never asked me to be perfect. He asked me to be faithful. To keep showing up. To keep doing the work.

And this is exactly what most women who come into my coaching container struggle with too. They think they’re “inconsistent,” but really… they’re just trying to meet a standard God never put on them in the first place.

Consistency isn’t flawless execution. Or white knuckling your way through extremes until you can’t anymore so you give up.

Consistency is repeatable, sustainable patterns.
It’s grace with direction.
It’s showing up- not just on the easy days, but on all days, even if that means showing up imperfectly.

You’re failing because you’ve been focused on the wrong target. Stop shooting at perfect. Aim for CONSISTENT.

If you’re tired of swinging between ‘all in’ and ‘I blew it’, relentlessly chasing the perfect version of yourself… consider this your sign. Maybe it’s time to chase the consistent version of yourself instead.

What I didn’t realize then - but have learned through my own walk with the Lord and through coaching hundreds of women just like me - is this: God never asked me to be perfect. He asked me to be faithful. To keep showing up. To keep doing the work.

It rewards extremes, applauds discipline without context, and celebrates a version of “fitness” that is only meant for COMPETITIVE ATHLETES, not for walking around in daily life.

When I stepped on stage, I was shredded. My abs were crisp, my glutes were striated, and people praised the discipline it took to get there.

But what you didn’t see was what it took behind the scenes: Hunger so high it hijacked my thoughts… sleep so light I felt wired and tired… flatlined hormones, zero sex drive, a jacked up gut and a metabolism running on fumes.

That version of me was shredded & lean, yes. But she wasn’t healthy.

So here’s what I want all women to hear: A woman’s body is not designed to live at stage-level body fat. Not hormonally, not metabolically, not emotionally.

Some degree of body fat on a woman is necessary and good because it stabilizes hormones, supports thyroid function, protects bones, regulates appetite, keeps moods balanced, and allows us to live without micromanaging every calorie that passes our lips.

The physique I have now? Still lean. Still strong. Still athletic. But it’s sustainable. My metabolism is fueled. My hormones are on fire, I cycle regularly and painlessly, I get 8-9 hours sleep a night, my workouts feel powerful instead of punishing, and when my husband wants to go? I’m ready to rumble.

The best version of yourself doesn’t require chasing a look that costs you your health, your energy, or your sanity…in fact the opposite. It means creating a body that you can LIVE in -not just pose in, one that is strong, hormonally supported, and capable.

But behind every real transformation is a woman who chose discipline over comfort, consistency over convenience, and faith over feelings.

Fat loss isn’t linear or easy.

It takes guts to stay consistent when the scale doesn’t move.

It takes grit to eat for fuel, not feelings.

I think “reduce your stress” is one of the most overused, least helpful advice ever. But it is also one of the most important.

Because chronic stress doesn’t just stay in your head (or heart) it shows up in your hormones, gut, metabolism, and mood.

But while the world says manage it,
the Bible says tells us to cast it.
And to exchange it for peace.

Scripture doesn’t offer us an unhelpful or vague “relax more.”

It gives a prescriptive, step-by-step pathway to peace

When someone has a history of dieting, stress, gut issues, hormone disruption, or metabolic slowdown, the body doesn’t just “respond” because the plan finally looks good on paper. It’s not operating off this week or last- it’s responding to years of signals.

This client lost 40 pounds in just under two years. Now to some of you that might sound slow… but here’s the difference: she didn’t just lose it, she kept it off. No rebound. No regain. No “back where I started.”

How? She got consistent. And she stayed patient.

Even when you start doing everything “right,” your body often needs an extended stretch of consistency before it feels safe enough to let weight go. If you’ve been under-fed, over-fed, inflamed, overtired, or inconsistent for months and even years, you can’t expect the body to do a complete 180 in a week.

Consistency isn’t about crushing it for 10 days, it’s about sending the same message over and over until your body believes you: “You’re safe. You’re fed. You’re supported. This isn’t another short-term push.”

Once that internal stress alarm turns off and the metabolism has time to recalibrate, the weight starts to move, more predictably, and in a way that stays off.

So don’t be discouraged if your progress is slow in the beginning. It isn’t failure, it’s your body adjusting. The longer you give it consistency, the more it will give back. ♥️

I say this as a coach who has clients on GLP-1s- and has even recommended them.

Yes, these meds can slow gastric emptying, regulate blood sugar, blunt hunger hormones, and for some, that absolutely turns the volume down on food noise.

But food noise isn’t just biological.
It’s psychological.
It’s emotional.
It’s (dare I say it) spiritual.

It’s stress.
It’s boredom.
It’s habit.
It’s comfort.
It’s control.
It’s reaching for food when what you really need is to reach for Jesus.

A GLP-1 or GIP agonist can muffle the sound, but it can’t mute it.

If food has been your coping mechanism, your safety net, your distraction, or your emotional release, that doesn’t disappear with an injection.

A shot can’t rewrite your relationship with food. And unless you do the inner work, the second you come off the drug, that food noise will come rushing back, louder than before.

➡️ Some people just genetically store more fat around their midsection, and may have lean arms or legs, yet not have visible abs. The structure of your abdominal wall, your muscle bellies and tendon insertions are all unique and impact of your abs show.
➡️ Where the body chooses to burn fat from first or last is not something you can control. Often, the midsection is the last place to lean out, especially for women due to estrogen’s protective effect on abdominal fat stores.
➡️ Some people have naturally thicker abdominal walls, meaning their abs will “pop” more with less effort. Others may need years of consistent progressive overload and total-body training to build enough muscle mass for abs to show even once fat is lost.
➡️ Poor sleep or lots of stress can raise cortisol which causes abdominal fat storage, even in individuals who are otherwise lean. Hormonal imbalances can also influence body fat distribution.

Despite your best efforts, you still may never see that super lean, chiseled six-pack. And it has nothing to do with your worth, your work ethic, or your willpower.

Genetics, body structure, fat distribution, hormone balance, they all play a role in how (and if) your abs show.

But don’t forget- the leanest version of you isn’t always the healthiest, strongest, or happiest version.

Chasing visible abs shouldn’t come at the cost of your energy, hormones, or joy.

So instead of asking, “Why don’t I have abs yet?”…

Maybe the better question is:
“Am I strong, healthy, confident, and living in alignment with what matters most to me?”

I’m not here to tell you pizza, ice cream, chips, wine, or beer are “bad.”

But I am here to tell you they’re not foods that will promote the health, healing, and physique you came to me for.

Because let’s be real…

👉 Eating squash didn’t bring you to me.
👉 Eating grilled chicken didn’t bring you to me.
👉 Eating fruit didn’t bring you to me.

It was the pizza, wine, chips, and ice cream on repeat that fueled the cascade of metabolic dysfunction, gut issues, painful joints, hormone chaos, and weight gain.

And we all know the truth: if nothing changes, nothing changes. Proverbs 26:11: “Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.”

Am I saying you can never have those foods again? No.

But I am saying if you want to heal, progress, and stay fit, those foods have to be the exception, not the norm.

Because food isn’t just calories. Food is information for your cells. 📡 So, if you frequently eat foods that tell your cells to be sick, guess what? You will be sick.

Calories in vs. calories out is still the foundation of weight change, but hormones influence how your body handles those calories. Thyroid hormones control how fast you burn energy, insulin regulates whether you store or use it, and cortisol or sex hormones can affect hunger, cravings, and fat storage.

So when hormones are “off”?

It makes calories in calories out look more like advanced trigonometry than basic math.

Being on a “diet” on paper doesn’t always equate to being in a deficit in your body.

Hormones also affect your mood, sleep, appetite, and satiety so when they’re not playing nice it makes “sticking” to calories in (deficit) and calories out (exercise) that much harder.

So. Yes, calories DO matter- but context matters more. At the end of the day, fat loss isn’t just science on paper - it’s biology in your body.

And biology always has the final say.

Discipline isn’t optional-it’s spiritual (1 Corinthians. 9:27). And lack of stewardship isn’t just weak willpower. It’s a heart issue.

Scripture reminds us: “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, discipline and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7). Notice that? God GIVES us discipline and self-control. Discipline isn’t something you have to go hunt down, it’s already available to you through the Holy Spirit.

Discipline isn’t punishment. It’s protection. Hod gives us a spirit of discipline so we can align our body, mind, and spirit with His purposes and run our race well.

When we continually choose excuses over obedience, we’re no different than those in Luke 14:18 who missed the banquet (Gods goodness) because they “all began to make excuses.”

Don’t be the weapon formed against you. Surrender your excuses. Start making your body a vessel of obedience. Discipline is worship. Stewardship is warfare.

“Lord, renew my mind and strengthen my will. Help me to walk in discipline and self-control, break destructive cycles, and live with consistency. Teach me to steward my time, body, relationships, and assignments with excellence, in Your name.”

Scripture reminds us: “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, discipline and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7). Notice that? God GIVES us discipline and self-control. Discipline isn’t something you have to go hunt down, it’s already available to you through the Holy Spirit.

Discipline isn’t punishment. It’s protection. Hod gives us a spirit of discipline so we can align our body, mind, and spirit with His purposes and run our race well.

When we continually choose excuses over obedience, we’re no different than those in Luke 14:18 who missed the banquet (Gods goodness) because they “all began to make excuses.”

Don’t be the weapon formed against you. Surrender your excuses. Start making your body a vessel of obedience. Discipline is worship. Stewardship is warfare.

“Lord, renew my mind and strengthen my will. Help me to walk in discipline and self-control, break destructive cycles, and live with consistency. Teach me to steward my time, body, relationships, and assignments with excellence, in Your name.”

But shifting hormones do NOT shut the door on muscle growth.

Muscle growth after menopause is still possible, because it’s primarily driven by things you can control:

✔️Lifting with intensity
✔️ Applying progressive overload
✔️ Eating enough protein
✔️ Prioritizing recovery

Even with just 2 sessions a week, you can get stronger, improve bone density, and boost your metabolism. In fact, post-menopause, fewer but higher-quality sessions often work better.

So please dont get discouraged. You’re not too old and it’s never too late, and if 2x/week is all you’re got? RUN WITH IT! 💪🏻
